Daniels Health understands Arizona Medical Waste Regulations...

Where there is medical innovation, there is medical and biohazardous waste. These regulations fall under the ADEQ (Arizona Department of Environmental Quality) and the federal rules of OSHA. The ADEQ has a number of very specific guidelines when it comes to the handling biohazardous medical waste as well as discarded drugs, which include:

  • Perishable medical waste may be stored unrefrigerated as long as it doesn’t create a disturbance
  • Biohazardous medical waste must not be stored more than 90 days, unless the generator has met operational and design requirements per the state’s regulations
  • A person must obtain approval and a BMWFP (Biohazardous Medical Waste Facility Plan) from the ADEQ to construct any facility used to store, transfer, treat, or dispose of biohazardous medical waste that is not generated on site

There are also very specific rules for non-medical biohazardous waste generators such as tattoo parlors. Tattoo needles and any waste exposed to human blood generated during the creation of a tattoo must be disposed of in the same manner as biohazardous medical waste. As the second largest healthcare waste management company in North America, Daniels knows a thing or two about managing sharps and potentially infectious waste

Let's Talk About Arizona

The “Copper State” is renowned for Roadrunners, the Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Fort Apache, the Saguaro cactus and The Grand Canyon. With more mountains than Switzerland, more golf courses than Scotland and more national monuments and parks than any other American state. Arizona has more than enough to see and do. It’s most famous attraction; the Grand Canyon is listed as one of the “7 Wonders of the Natural World.” This majestic chasm running 277 miles long and 18 miles wide is older than the dinosaurs and home to the Supai Village, located in the Havasupai Indian Reservation at the canyon’s base.

Arizona is the only place in America where you can stand in 4 states at once, sharing boundaries with Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. It’s also home to world’s oldest rodeo in Prescott, the first McDonald’s drive-through in Sierra Vista, the longest running NFL team the Cardinals and the legendary O.K. Corral. Its cities include Phoenix, boasting 400 hotels, 200 golf courses and average of 299 days of sunshine each year makes the capital a popular destination. Tucson is a great place to explore the Sonoran Desert from and Mesa is part of the “Valley of the Sun.” Arizona’s unique landscapes have set the scene for some of our favorite films including: Casablanca, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: A New Hope.

Foodies won’t be disappointed with Arizona specialties such as Burros (the Arizonan name for Burrito), Chimichangas or Sonoran hot dogs all washed down with a locally brewed beer or margarita. The 5 pillars of the state’s original economy were Cattle, Copper, Climate, Cotton and Citrus, however in recent years Arizona has a new economical boom, the “meditech” industry. The Valentine State is now home to more than 400 companies working on innovative medical technology to change and save lives.
