Medical & Biohazardous Waste Disposal in Florida State
Affectionately called The Sunshine State, Florida has the second largest stretch of coastline of any state in America. Florida’s coastline stretches 1350 miles bordering both the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, making it the second largest coastline of any state in the country, after Alaska. However, it’s not just the incredible beaches and coastal lifestyle Floridians and tourists love about the sunny state.
Florida is also home to the Disney World Resort in Orlando, where children and adults can mingle with their favorite film and cartoon idols. Situated on over 30,500 acres, Disney World is almost the same size as San Francisco and is neighbored by other famous attractions including SeaWorld and Universal Studios. The state also grows a substantial amount of oranges. Florida oranges are renowned for their freshness, color and flavor, and are used in the production of more than 60% of America’s orange juice products.
Something you might not know Florida is renowned for, is the quality of its hospitals and medical facilities. The state is host to Florida Hospital, Tampa General Hospital and the Mayo Clinic Florida, which are all recognized as leading American medical establishments. There are a total of 42,000 facilities in Florida that generate medical and biohazard waste, including clinics, nursing homes, laboratories, funeral homes, pharmacies, veterinarians and dentists. This is really where we come in...
Local Florida-based services for medical waste disposal
Daniels Health is the leading expert in healthcare waste management... but not quite in the way that you think. We think very differently! At Daniels we strongly believe that medical waste management can have a strong impact on safety, infection control, environmental impact and overall efficiencies of a clinical environment. Therefore we don't provide a cardboard box and a hazard sticker and say 'off you go'! We provide you with sharps and medical waste containers that have been designed in tandem with clinicians, engineered with built-in safety mechanisms to protect from needlestick injuries, secure locks to prevent tampering and misuse of pharmaceuticals, and designed to enable hands-free operation with zero assembly - eliminating occupational risk and hygiene concerns. We provide resources to ensure correct container use and segregation understanding, compliance training to ensure your facility is in compliance with Florida State regulations, and service that trumps them all! Schedule frequencies that suit your needs... all serviced by Daniels drivers from our local Orlando plant, transparent pricing, and some really great people who are totally invested in ensuring our services minimize interruptions, enhance safety and efficiencies and amplify your ability to deliver outstanding quality of patient care.
The disposal of medical and biohazard waste in the state of Florida is governed by both the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or (FDEP) and the Department of Health. The FDEP is primarily responsible for the incineration and final disposal of biomedical waste, whilst the Department of Health is focused on regulating the facilities that generate, transport, store or treat biomedical waste through processes other than incineration. Under Florida’s regulations, storage of biomedical waste at the generating facility must not exceed 30 days. This 30-day-period begins as soon as the first non-sharps item of biomedical waste is placed into a red bag or sharps container, or when a sharp container that contains only sharps is closed and sealed. It is also mandatory in Florida for all biomedical waste facilities, except those operating under a DEP permit, to obtain an annual permit.
Here at Daniels Health, our focus is on providing quality medical and biohazardous waste disposal to Florida State and the rest of America.
One of the bigger trends in the medical waste space is the use of third-party waste haulers. You sign up with a company, and they sound great! And then they pass you on to someone else... you've just found out that you signed up with a broker that has no investment in service quality, adequate insurances to meet compliance risk or ability to resolve a bin or service issue in a timely manner. We are not that company! We are locals, and it is our drivers and our service team that you will meet from day one. With all container processing and treatment taking place at our site in Orlando, we ensure your waste is treated within state borders and in accordance with local regulations - eliminating risk of exposure for our customers.
