Named after the Native American Erie tribe, our unique Pennsylvania city has a rich history. During the war of 1812, Erie became known as the “flagship city” because it served as homeport to Niagara, Oliver Hazard Perry’s flagship. Birthplace of the famous Tae Bo creator Billy Blanks, Erie, PA leaves little to be desired for the adventurous — or hungry. Looking to enjoy the epitome of delectable, hot diner food? This beautiful city also offers a beautiful beach. For a relaxing walk along the gorgeous coastline of Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park, a National Natural Landmark, provides 3,200 acres of sand and shore to explore. (Don’t worry, that’s only 5 square miles.) As if that isn’t impressive enough, if you want to bask in all the glory that our city has to offer, a visit to Erie’s Bicentennial Tower features a 137 feet high panoramic view of the whole city of Erie. (Just don’t look down.) Our city’s sports aficionados can also rest assured knowing they have several semi-pro teams, as well as four college teams to keep them entertained. In terms of education, we personally pride ourselves on taking healthcare just as seriously as recreation.  

Erie is the home of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). A private grad school specializing in dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine, LECOM is one of the two pharmacy schools in the country to feature a distance education program. LECOM also became the first in the US to offer a three-year medical school program after a few similar programs were closed. Millcreek Community Hospital, a healthcare system focused on providing superb clinical practices, is a fully functioning branch of LECOM Health.
