Stanford School of Medicine Case Study
Stanford School of Medicine (SoM) faced the challenge of having multiple vendors collecting medical and sharps waste containers from their 26 facilities. Since switching to the Daniels Sharpsmart reusable container system, we have assisted SoM toward:
- 55-60% Diversion of Non-Hazardous waste
- 45-50% Cost Reduction in Waste Handling + Disposal
- 50-55% Reduction in Container exchanges
UVA University Hospital Case Study
UVA University Hospital, a 700+ bed acute care facility within the UVA Health System, had long relied on disposable containers for sharps waste. When a catastrophic fire disrupted their supplier’s operations, the hospital faced a serious risk to service continuity.
Within a week of the RFI, Daniels Health deployed a team for a two-day site assessment to audit departments, engage key stakeholders, and develop an informed installation plan. While other vendors proposed an 8–10 week turnaround, Daniels committed to and delivered full implementation within three weeks.
Through thorough pre-planning and the installation team’s expertise, the project was completed ahead of schedule. Average exchange times for a wall-mounted unit were four minutes and 30 seconds for stand-alone bins. The swift, efficient transition allowed additional time for final punch list items and supplemental staff education on compliant disposal practices.
