Frequently Asked Questions

How often must regulated medical waste be removed from a facility?

Regulations for storage duration and removal of regulated medical wastes from facilities differs from state-to-state. For example, in the state of Florida, regulated waste (which includes biomedical waste) cannot be stored for more than 30 days. In the state of Michigan, a medical waste generator may not store waste on the premises for more than 90 days. Regulations may also differ depending on the volume of waste generated by a healthcare facility on a monthly basis, such as a large-quantity generator (LQG) and small-quantity generator (SQG). Storage temperature rules also apply. Given the complexities and variability of rules across areas and facilities, it's important to work with a vendor that can provide clarity for all waste streams.
