Frequently Asked Questions

Are methanol and 1-propanol acceptable ingredients in Hand Sanitizers?

The FDA has clearly stated that methanol and 1-propanol are not acceptable active ingredients for hand sanitizer products and, due to their toxic effects, must not be used. Methanol can be toxic when absorbed through the skin and life-threatening when ingested. Through internal investigations, the FDA noted that hand sanitizer products containing these toxic alcohols are often incorrectly labelled, and therefore it is the duty of the user to correctly identify the efficacy of the product being used.
